Birdwatching

We provide tours specifically designed for bird watching both on land and sea, as well as integrating birdwatching into our other activities.
Areas such as the Mergui Archipelago, which consists of more than 800 uninhabited islands, provide unparalleled opportunities to see rare and exotic species, including several species of hornbill, rare shorebirds, parrots, pitas, pigeons, eagles and other raptors.

We lead day birding trips around Phuket, the island on the West coast ofThailand at the "elbow". There are good sites on the island for a wide variety of shore, mangrove, and inland species. Charges generally run $50 per day per person with $100 as a minimum. In Depth Adventures will provide transportation and lunch.

We also offer birding trips to the North of Phuket, where forest and farms converge to provide a large number of inland species. These are longish day trips, or an overnight two day birding trip can be arranged with the night at a lovely beachside resort. Expect to pay $100 per day per person and about $150 for two for the night's dinner, lodging and breakfast.We also arrange sailboat or fast boat trips to areas where you can see river bird communities as well as shore birds, or, if you wish a trip of 3-6 days, provide boat, crew, meals and on board naturalist (me) for $200 per person per day. You may join one of our Mergui tours, or select an itinerary that suits your particular interests.

Any of the boat trips include snorkeling and meals when appropriate.

You may also join us for bird watching in Cambodia near Siem Reap. Lake Tonle Sap is huge and shallow. Many species nest along its shores. Parrots, Indian Rollers, and many species of forest birds may be seen among the ruins of Angkor Wat and the surrounding forests and fields. You may combine birdwatching there with our tours of Angkor Wat and the many other monuments.
